ECONOMY & SOCIETY: INTERNATIONAL CHESS TOURNAMENT CONTINUES IN STEPANAKERT

Two international chess tournaments continue in Stepanakert. They were organized and are being held by the Nagorno Karabakh government and Armenian Chess Academy. The games of the 3rd tour were held in both series of competitions.

Bu Ksianji (China) defeated Alexei Dreev (Russia), Vasiliy Ivanchuk (Ukraine) Levon Aronian (Armenia) in the "A" tournament. Games between Viktor Bologan (Moldova) and Ashot Anastasian (Armenia), Ivan Sokolov (Holland) and Karen Asrian (Armenia), Hikaru Nakamura (US) and Bartolomey Macheya (Poland) ended in a draw. There are two top chess-players, Anastasian and Ksianji who gained 2.5 points each.

Moscow champion Sergei Grigoriants (Russia) defeated champion of Europe Katerina Lahno (Ukraine), Beniamin Galstian (Armenia) defeated Lopes Martines (Spain) in the "B" tournament. The other 3 games ended in a draw. The only top chess-player is Sergei Grigoriants who has 2.5 points out of possible 3. 3 chess-players lag behind them by 0.5 points. They are Yevgeni Sveshnikov (Latvia), Ervin Lami (Holland) abd Tigran L.Petrosian (Armenia).
