In the context of the measures on the revival of the former glory of Shushi and making it a scientific and cultural center, the visit of co-chair of the Lermontov Committee of Russia V.A. Zakharov to Artsakh was a pleasant surprise. He arrived here with a special mission – to award the town of Shushi with the medal of prominent Russian poet M.Y. Lermontov, in honor of his visit to Shushi in 1837.

NKR Minister of Education, Culture and Sport Kamo Atayan greeted the guests in the hall of the Shushi regional administration.

V. Zakharov told interesting stories about the visit and relations of the great poet with Shushi, awarded the town with the Lermontov Medal and his own book “Chronicle of M.Y. Lermontov’s Life and Work”, with a dedicatory inscription, and Chairman of “Antares” Media Holding, benefactor A. Martirosian, accompanying him to Arsakh, - with «Charity» Order. A. Martirosian made a great contribution to the issue of NKR recognition. In response to the award, he made a new initiative – to grant corresponding literature to the Shushi library.

Then, the guests visited the house (currently half-destroyed) where M. Lermontov lived and on the wall of which was once a memorial board.
