ECONOMY & SOCIETY: KARABAGH-DIASPORA COOPERATION DEVELOPES

Date: 09-25-2006
Source: Karabakh Open Agency, translation by AAA NK
Author:

During the last years, various events were organized for intensifying the relations between Armenia and the Diaspora. In the critical years in Karabagh, our Diaspora compatriots did their best for assisting us. During the Karabagh war, they sent medicines, food products and other things, and some Diaspora representatives preferred defending the homeland themselves, participating in the military activities.

After the war, our Diaspora Armenians, and the Armenian organizations operating there made their great contribution to the revival of Artsakh, sponsoring the construction and repair of dwelling houses, school buildings, kindergartens, medical and other buildings, as well as the revival of villages, construction of roads and water pipelines. Bright examples of this are the Goris-Stepanakert and North-South highways, the latter still being underway.

Bases for the realization of new programs on assisting Artsakh are also created at almost every Pan-Armenian event. It is not accidental that they are organized in Armenia, and lately – in Artsakh, which contributes to the establishment of efficient cooperation, as our Diaspora compatriots arrive in their homeland, get acquainted with the situation in place, and discuss the implementation of joint programs with their compatriots from Armenia and Artsakh.

The Diaspora Armenians are also realizing the program “Revival of Artsakh”, which started in the Martakert region. Besides humanitarian programs, great investment projects are fulfilled, thanks to which various enterprises operate and, consequently, jobs are opened here.
