Water & Sanitation

Another serious problem for the population is the shortage of drinking water. As a result of the war, water supply systems were almost entirely destroyed in 95 villages and towns and require a complete overhaul. Water is available in the Republic's capital and regional centers for only 1.5-2 hours a day. In many villages and towns, water is available only every other day. Currently, water distribution systems in eighty-eight towns and villages (including the capital Stepanakert and provincial centers), need to be repaired. The quality of drinking water, itself, must be improved.

Centralized heating system also needs to be restored in major Nagorno Karabakh towns.

Suggested Programs and Estimated Cost:
Construction and restoration of water distribution systems - $8 million
